Abstract

1359986 Encapsulation process MAGNESIUM ELEKTRON Ltd 11 Aug 1971 [13 Aug 1970] 39075/70 Heading B8C Fluids and solids are encapsulated by dissolving a water-insoluble polymerizable monomer (or prepolymer) in a solvent having a higher affinity for water than for the monomer, dispersing the monomer solution in water, dispersing the substance to be encapsulated in the dispersion so formed and mixing into the resultant a solution of a polymerizing agent for the monomer in a solvent having a higher affinity for water than the polymerizing agent and continuing mixing until polymerization is substantially complete. Suitable solvents are acetone, diethylene glycol, dioxan, tetrahydrofuran and C 1-6 aliphatic alcohols. Suitable polymerizing agents are polyamines, polyamides and polyamine/phenol-formaldehyde adducts. Suitable monomers are, in particular, epoxy monomers and pre-polymers. Examples relate to the encapsulation of xylene, a polyester resin and magnesium powder.
