Abstract

1359282 Tea; tobacco BRITISH-AMERICAN TOBACCO CO Ltd 8 Jan 1973 [6 June 1972] 985/73 Headings A2B and A2C The flavour and aroma of a botanical material, such as tea or tobacco, is enhanced by adjusting its moisture content to from 5 to 75% and then subjecting it to microwave energy to provide a power level of less than 0.25 kilowatt per pound of contained water. This power level is below that required to puff the material. Preferably the material is impregnated with an inert organic solvent for the flavour and aroma constituents thereof, before the microwave treatment, of which methylene chloride and ethanol are exemplified.
