Abstract

1439950 Firelighter composition FIREWOOD Inc 6 Dec 1973 [8 Dec 1972] 56580/73 Heading C5G [Also in Division D1] A wood body comprises a natural wood block 10 having hydrocarbon (e.g. paraffin, petrolatum) substantially completely filling its pores and passages, a wrapping 11 (e.g. wax-paper) around the block and lighter strips 12 containing hydrocarbon ignitible material secured to the opposite ends of the block. The pores of the wood may be filled by immersing in a liquid hydrocarbon bath, heating the bath (e.g. to 140‹ to 180‹ C.) to vaporize moisture, and to remove gases and encrusting substances from the wood forming pores and passages, and then cooling the wood body again immersed in liquid hot hydrocarbon (e.g. 70-75‹ C.) to absorb hydrocarbon.
