Abstract

1358920 Pneumatic suspension systems DAIMLER-BENZ AG 17 Nov 1971 [18 Nov 1970] 53423/71 Addition to 1358919 Heading B7D In a pneumatic suspension system for a vehicle having as described in the main patent a driven rear axle 11 suspended by air springs 19, 20, 21, 22 and a trailing rear axle 12 suspended by air springs 23, 24 and provided with a lifting spring 31, means for controlling the pressure in the springs 23, 24, 31 is arranged so that when the pressure in the driving axle springs 19, 20, 21, 22 exceeds a predetermined pressure air is released from the lifting spring 31 and the springs 23, 24 are pressurized. Respective levelling valves 36 arranged on each side of the vehicle and supplied with compressed air through a line 35 inflate the springs 19, 20, 21, 22 to a first pressure value through pressure limiting valves 37. Whenever the load is such that the pressure in the springs exceeds a second, higher value a pressure switch 50 closes to energize a relay 51 to open a switch 52 so that a solenoid valve 47 releases air from the lifting spring 31 and solenoid valves 46 connect the springs 23, 24 to the levelling valves. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the pressure limiting valves 37 are replaced by solenoid valves controlled by a pressure switch sensitive to the pressure in the springs 19, 20, 21, 22.
