Abstract
1358710 Moulding foamed styrene resin articles DENKI KAGAKU KOGYO KK 29 Dec 1971 [29 Dec 1970] 60424/71 Heading B5A In a method of producing foamed styrene resin articles, a two part rotatable mould is used which has an interstice, at the joint of the two parts, allowing passage therethrough of water and air but not of the resin : in use the filled mould is immersed and rotated in heated water, the water flowing into the mould to heat and expand the resin to form the article. Articles mentioned are a picture frame and a chair. The resin may be polystyrene, styrene-methyl methacrylate copolymer, or acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene terpolymer. The temperature of the water is varied depending on the polymer used, and if necessary a salt may be added to elevate its boiling point. The inclination of the axis of rotation is varied between horizontal and vertical to ensure that no air pockets exist in the mould.
