Abstract

1358223 Screw sockets; anchor bolts C F STEATHAM 17 Feb 1972 7469/72 Heading F2H A metal bolt anchor comprises a steel sleeve 1 having a bore including cylindrical and tapered sections 11, 12, the sleeve having two or more axial slits 13 at its inner end, and a steel pin 2 which is driven through the bore by a rod 20 to expand the sleeve in a hole 3; the sleeve being of polygonal, preferably square, external crosssection at its outer head end 5 and of circular external cross-section at its slit end and having a transition part bearing a series of teeth 8, 9, 10, 10<SP>1</SP> defined at the corners of its cross-section, each successive tooth in a direction toward the head end 5 projecting further from the axis of the sleeve 1 such that the teeth broach and bite into the walls of the hole 3 when the anchor is inserted before it is expanded. The pin 2 has a cylindrical part 14, a conical nose 15 and a circumferential groove 18 which engages a lip at the end of the bore to retain the pin after the slit end of the pin has been expanded so that circumferential ridges 6, 7 grip the walls of the hole. A tubular bolt may be formed as an outwardly projecting extension of the head 5. Alternatively a bolt may be formed as an integral threaded extension of the pin 2.
