Abstract
135,733. Nash, T. H. March 5, 1919. Pulping-engines. - A continuous beating and refining engine for pulp, stuff, &c. comprises a series of beating-rolls 8 to which the stuff is fed down one end of a feed-plate 3. The bed of the engine ascends from the feed-plate, and the stuff passes along the side of the vat to the outlet 10<a>, down which it flows along the first pipe 11 to the inlet 12a, by which it is delivered to the second zone of the engine, and thus it progresses under the beating-rolls and back through the pipes 11 until it reaches the opposite side of the vat, where it is discharged through the pipe 14. The feed-plate 3 is divided by hinged deflectors 15 connected for adjustment to a rod 17, by which the width of the initial stream and the number of times the material returns through the pipes 11 to the feed-plate is controlled.
