Abstract

234,739. Nortons (Tividale), Ltd., and Minikin, R. R. Jan. 16, 1925. Non-rotary straining machines with jigging elements; separating by gravity.-Relates to apparatus for dewatering coal slimes of the kind including a moving sieve 1 whereon the small coal and slimes are delivered by a shoot 2 and a settling tank 5 to which the precipitate from another tank beneath the sieve is returned preparatory to the discharge of the slimes on to the residual layer of coal passing over the sieve and consists in forming the tank 5 of a V-shaped trough having an inlet 6 from the return pipe 4 and a gallery 7 to which the overflow from the return pipe passes. The tank, which is adapted to maintain a constant head of slimes so as to give a constant delivery to the residual layer includes a vibratory sieve 9 through which a part of the slimes passes to the gallery; a valve 16 the opening of which is controlled by a hand lever 19, and a discharge shoot 20, which is adjustably inclined by a lever 22, and which delivers the slimes on to the sieve 1 in the direction of travel of the residual layer.
