Abstract

1357250 Knitting machines EDOUARD DUBIED & CIE SA 9 Feb 1972 [10 March 1971] 6134/72 Heading D1C [Also in Division G3] A carriage position measuring device of a programme controlled flatbed knitting machine comprises reading systems 1, 2 cooperating with, and mutually spaced by a quarter of the pitch of, grooves 3 in the auxiliary needle bed 4 guiding the jacks cooperating with the needles each reading system comprising a pair 5, 6 of reading combs mutually offset by half the pitch of grooves 3, forming, along with fixed capacitor (12) and variable capacitor (13), Fig. 4 (not shown) a capacitance bridge fed by oscillator 14, the output being a modulated waveform (U9), Fig. 5 (not shown), whose amplitude varies periodically as a function of carriage position. The waveform from each reading system is processed in respective multipliers and phase discriminators 18 demodulators 20, and square wave generators 23 to provide to coincidence memory 29, also receiving programme information from unit 27, a pair 26 of square waves in quadrature, the memory controlling the machine 28 to obtain coincidence between position and programme command signals. A needle counting and carriage direction detection system 30 is also provided. The oscillator frequency is substantially higher than the greatest moulding frequency attained in practice. By using a multiplicity of elements 7, 8, whose pitch equals that of grooves 3, in each reading system, greater accuracy is attained. Allowance may be made in the programme for any delay in machine response due to inertia. The circuitry of Fig. 1 is detailed in Fig. 3 (not shown).
