1355743 Polycrystals of boron nitride VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT ABRAZIVOV I SHLIFOVANIA 6 June 1972 26272/72 Heading C1A Polycrystals of cubic boron nitride are prepared by subjecting a mixture of hexagonal boron nitride together with an initiator consisting of germanium boride, germanium nitride, silicon boride, and/or silicon nitride to a pressure of >55 Kbor and a temperature of #1700‹ C. The mixture may contain 80-98% by wt. boron nitride and 20-2% by wt. of the initiator. The polycrystals formed may have crystallites of size 10<SP>-3</SP>-10<SP>-4</SP> cm.
