Abstract
1355316 Combustion flash bulb PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 Feb 1973 [19 Feb 1972] 7722/73 Heading G2L When making a combustion flash bulb not having an ignition wire in which an ignition device comprises two current conductors whose ends within the bulb envelope are joined by an ignition mass comprising a mixture of metal powder and a binder, the ignition mass is subjected to an electrical breakdown in a vacuum or an inert gas atmosphere prior to filling the envelope with a gas to maintain combustion. The ignition mass is preferably Zr, Al, Mg or Ti mixed with KClO 4 and nitorcellulose and is accommodated in a cavity in a glass body within the envelope, the glass body also embracing the two current conductors. The bulb may be filled with Zr or Hf foil and the combustion supporting gas may be O 2 , NF 3 , N 2 F 4 or OF 2 .
