Abstract

1355021 Moulded open bottom trays DIAMOND INTERNATIONAL CORP 29 Sept 1972 [30 Sept 1971 24 May 1972] 45119/72 Addition to 1342842 Heading B8P A moulded tray has an open lattice bottom formed by primary ribs 24, 26 which extend between, but not beyond, a boundary rib extending around the periphery of the bottom. The primary ribs may have a U- or V-shaped section and may be partially or completely filled-in. The side and end walls of the tray may be of the same height or the end walls may be higher than the side walls (Figs. 4-13). In one embodiment (Figs. 7-10), the primary ribs which are of U- shaped section and almost completely filled-in, further include horizontal flange portions (224<SP>1</SP>, 226<SP>1</SP>) forming an article supporting surface. The width of the flange portions (224<SP>1</SP>, 226<SP>1</SP>) varies from a narrow point at the mid-point between two rib intersections to a wide point at the rib intersections. In this embodiment (Figs. 7-10) and a further embodiment (Figs. 11-13) the boundary rib (232<SP>1</SP> or 332<SP>1</SP>) merges directly into the side and end walls which include denesting ledges (214 or 314). The trays are moulded from wood pulp stock, paper stock, biodegradable foam polystyrene or porous polyolefinic material.
