Abstract
1353751 Hydrogen; nitrogen H F A TOPSOE 1 Oct 1971 [5 Oct 1970] 47247/70 Heading C1A Ammonia is decomposed catalytically into nitrogen and hydrogen by a process employing two catalytic stages, an elevated temperature and a pressure between 20 and 300 atmospheres. The temperature in the first stage is preferably 450-800‹ C. and in the second stage is 450-600‹ The catalyst used in the first stage may contain Ni or Fe. The second stage catalyst is preferably a promoted Fe catalyst. The effluent gas from the first stage may have an ammonia content of 25-45% by volume. The pressure used is preferably at least 50 atmospheres.
