Abstract

1353110 Gallows for ship-mounted hoisting apparatus VICKERS Ltd 14 Dec 1972 57791/72 Addition to 1268449 Heading B8B Lifting apparatus mounted on a ship's deck 3 comprises a gallows with a main frame 1 pivoted at 2 for luffing over the side or stern by hydraulic rams 4. A hoist rope 5 passes from a winch 6 over a pulley 7 to the load 8. A pendant subframe 9 in the form of a V is pivoted by its upper ends at 11 to the upper end of the main frame 1. The rope 5 passes through a tubular guide 10 with flared ends mounted on the sub-frame 9 to control swaying of the load 8 due to movement of the ship. Load control cylinders 11 are attached, by universal joints, between the main frame 1 and the sub-frame 9 and may be used to damp their relative movement or to lock their relative position.
