Abstract

1350758 Electro-depositing abrazive metal wire J C F DAWKINS 2 July 1971 [18 June 1970] 29549/70 Heading C7B A method of producing metal wire comprises coating a conductive substrate with a protective layer, making a line impression in the layer to expose the substrate, electro-depositing metal along the line to form a length of metal wire. Abrasive particles such as diamonds are impregnated into the wire by sprinkling into the line impression during deposition. The line may be made by a bladed tool or by a photographic marking and etching process. The substrate may be a flat plate or cylinder. In Fig. 2, coated cylinder 23 having circular grooves 51 is rotated by motor 30. The cylinder is made the cathode and the tank 22 is made the anode. The deposited wire is wound off by the roller 29.
