Abstract
134,777. Pieper, N. May 27, 1919. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Relates to automatic pistols having a detachable barrel independent of the breech-casing and consists in making the breech casing integral with the stock, and in providing lateral openings therein for the passage of the parts employed in manually-operating the enclosed breech-bolt. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the barrel 6 is detachably secured to the stock 1 by a pin 9 and a hooked lip 8, and is prevented from moving longitudinally by a sliding spring-catch 10. The breech-casing 2 is integral with tho stock 1. The breech-bolt 3 carries an upward projection connected to the plunger 14 of the bolt-return spring 12, which is housed in a chamber 11 above the barrel A stirrup 18 is pivoted to the rear of the bolt by pins extending through lateral openings in the stock, to enable the bolt to be operated manually : by swinging this stirrup up, the bolt may be drawn forwards out of the breech-casing with the barrel when disassembling. A modification is described in which the stirrup 18 is replaced bv projections sliding in open-fronted slots in the frame. In another modification, the return spring 12 is housed in the breech-casing above the bolt, and a device s provided for locking the bolt when the barrel is removed.
