Abstract

1346530 Preparation of phenolated fatty acid esters KAO SOAP CO Ltd 11 Dec 1972 [17 Dec 1971] 57064/72 Heading C2C Phenolated fatty acid esters containing principally the p-substitution product are prepared by reacting conjugated unsaturated fatty acid ester with phenol at an elevated temperature in the presence of acidic catalyst. The conjugated unsaturated fatty acid ester may be one of an unsaturated fatty acid having 10-24 carbon atoms and having two or more double bonds at least two of which are conjugated and alcohols of the formula ROH where R is alkyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms and mixtures of the said ester. In an example methyl linoleate is reacted with phenol.
