1346408 Lamps C M PEASLEY 11 Jan 1973 [16 May 1972] 1488/73 Heading F4R A battery operated lighting fitting comprises a base 3 adapted to be secured to a wall, ceiling or like supporting surface, a bulb holder 5 which protrudes normally from the base and is adapted to make frictional retaining engagement with the cap of a bulb 6, intermediate and end supports 7a, 7b and 8 on the base for securing one or more batteries 28a-28d, a switch 74 carried by the base, a cover 90 incorporating a transparent dome 102 and a reflector 100 having a central aperture 104 through which the bulb protrudes, and means 10, 12 for releasably retaining the cover on the base. The cover includes a wall 92 having a notch 106 to receive the T-shaped retaining member 10 and a hole 108 to make snapengagement with the resilient retaining tab 12. The negative pole of each battery is supported by a member 8 having a curved lip 32 at its outer end, four batteries being arranged in counter-parallel pairs on either side of the bulb holder 5 and being electrically connected by cliplike elements 58a, 58b which join the upper ends of each pair, resilient elements 48, 50 which engage the lower ends of the inner batteries 28b, 28c and form bulb contacts inside the bulb holder 5, and resilient elements 52, 54 which engage the lower ends of the outer batteries 28a, 28d and form switch contacts (52a, 54a). The switch has a spring-loaded rotatable element 76 which can be indexed by a pull chain 78 between successive "on" and "off" positions.
