Abstract

1346019 Valves; dampers MOTHERWELL BRIDGE ENG Ltd 30 Oct 1972 49995/72 Headings F2V and F2S A valve damper 19 for a check valve 10 comprises a piston 16 reciprocable in an arcuate bore, one end 20 of the bore being closed, and an elongate slot being formed in a length of the bore through which a radial arm 15 passes connecting the valve member 13 to the piston, such that as the valve member moves from its open to its closed position the piston moves towards the closed end of the bore. When the valve is immersed in the fluid of a storage tank (Fig. 3, not shown) the valve member is damped as it moves to the closed position by the piston forcing liquid from the arcuate bore through the elongate slot. The valve damper may be housed in a separate container so that a different damping fluid, e.g. gas, may be used.
