Abstract

1,138,355. Pressure - relieving devices. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 20 July, 1966 [2 Aug., 1965], No. 32937/65. Heading F2V. A pressure vessel 1 forming part of an applicator for dispensing liquid ammonia for use as a fertilizer is filled with the liquid ammonia under pressure through a valve 2 and is connected by line 3 to a cylinder 4 housing a spring-loaded piston 7. If the pressure in the vessel rises above a predetermined value due to expansion of the ammonia, the piston moves against the spring to relieve the pressure. The loading of the spring is adjustable by means of nut 8 and the end of rod 10 may constitute an indicator. Rod 10 may be connected to valve 2 to prevent operation of the latter when the piston is in a pressure-relieving position. Plug 11 allows purging of incondensible gases.
