Abstract

1342887 Transfers LETRASET INTERNATIONAL Ltd 19 April 1971 [20 April 1970] 18692/70 Heading B6C A heat activable transfer comprises a carrier of polyethylene terephthalate, polypropylene, on a laminate of paper with either of these and a transferable layer comprising a composition of a thermoplastic resin and a wax, the carrier being free of any applied release layer and the film material of the carrier having a softening temperature higher than that of the resin of the resin/wax composition. Suitable carrier films are polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polypropylene or polycarbonate. Suitable resins are P.V.C., methyl methacrylate, polyvinyl butyral, polystyrene or styrene/butadiene copolymers. The wax may be beeswax, microcrystalline wax, montan wax, azokenite, carnauba wax, castor oil wax, fibre wax or candelilla wax. Synthetic waxes such as polyethylene wax or higher fatty alcohols may also be used. The resin/wax composition may be screen printed on to the carrier. An example relates to the use of a transfer in decorating polystyrene lip-stick containers using a die heated within the range 140-200‹ C.
