Abstract

1341018 Methylene bridged polyarylamines IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [4 March 1970] 10428/70 Heading C2C Methylene bridged polyarylamines are prepared by reacting secondary or tertiary arylamines with formaldehyde in the absence of added catalyst or in the presence of a weak catalyst, viz. weak acids, acid salts, neutral ammonium salts, strong acids, in an amount of from 0À01 to 0À00001 moles per mol. of arylamine, at a temperature of 120‹ C. or higher. There may also be incorporated a neutral salt of a metal and a primary amine together with a secondary or tertiary amine. Several examples are described, one with reference to a flow sheet.
