Abstract

1341007 Boring earth &c S SEROTA 19 April 1971 [30 Dec 1969] 63270/69 Heading E1F An attachment 1 comprises a guide 16 having means 14 to suspend it from a derrick 3 and means 15 to secure it in alignment with a borehole, and a carriage 17 for a rotary drill 40 slidable on the guide. The means 15 comprises a clamp engaging casing C projecting from the borehole and this clamp may be supplemented or replaced by stays 30. The drill is supplied with driving and flushing fluids by pipes 47, 48 respectively. The addition or removal of sections of the drill rod D are facilitated by a vice 49 and the pivotal mounting of the drill on lugs 41. After a borehole has been drilled through the overburden using a percussive drill and the winch cable 4a, the percussive drill is removed and the casing is left in the borehole. The attachment and its drill are then fitted to the derrick, the hole is extended through the bedrock using a diamond bit, and core samples are taken. (For Figure see next page)
