Abstract

1339898 Valves DJPARKER 19 April 1971 [26 Feb 1970] 9338/70 Heading F2V [Also in Division A5] A control valve for underwater breathing apparatus comprises a body 11 with an inlet port 12 and an exhaust port 13 connected by a working chamber 36 having a breather connection 14. An inlet valve 15 is fitted in the inlet port which comprises a valve element 16 which co-operates with a valve seat 17 which is an integral part of the valve body; an exhaust valve 23 is fitted in the exhaust port and comprises a diaphragm 24 held between two rigid lines 25, 26 the diaphragm and discs being movable along a sleeve 27 against a spring 29. Super-ambient pressure in the working chamber causes the diaphragm assembly 24, 25, 26 to flex and to move away from the working chamber and allow air to escape around the edge of the diaphragm 24. Sub-ambient pressure in the working chamber causes the diaphragm assembly to move towards the working chamber, thus exerting a force on the boss 32 which opens the inlet valve 15. The inlet valve may be opened manually by depressing the knob 28 and, for use with a buoyancy bag, the knob 28 may be depressed sufficient to close the exhaust outlet at the surfaces 33, 34.
