Abstract
1339163 Counting apparatus ENGLISH NUMBERING MACHINES Ltd 15 March 1972 [2 June 1971] 18597/71 Heading G4D A counter in which the first number wheel (Fig. 1, not shown) is driven through a ratchet G and pawl 18, 20 mechanism by a sliding member A, is provided with a weight B coupled to member A so that if the counter receives an impact tending to move the member A to advance the count the mass of the weight opposes the movement. Member A and weight B are urged in opposite directions by springs E, F, or in an alternative embodiment (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) by a single spring between them. A two-armed lever C is coupled to weight B and thus urged against a projection on member A by the spring force. If the counter receives an impact in the direction Z both A and B tend to move in the direction X relative to a frame and since weight B has a greater moment of inertia no actuation occurs. An impact in the other direction causes weight B to harmlessly pivot lever C; member A rests against its stop and is not actuated.
