Abstract
1335307 Cooling furnaces charges FULLER CO 8 Nov 1971 [6 Nov 1970] 51754/71 Heading F4B In a grate cooler receiving material from a furnace, the space below the grate is divided into compartments 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, and a hood 35 is arranged to withdraw gases from a mid region 72 above the grate and feed them through heat exchangers 102 to the compartments 48, 50, 52 below the grate, while gases from the cool end region 74 pass through a dust extractor 82 to a compartment 46 below the furnace end region 70. The end compartments 44, 54 are fed with fresh air, and the arrangement is such that some of the fresh air from compartment 54 passes into the region 72 to be recycled through the hood 35, while the gases from the region 70 entering the furnace include air from the compartment 44, gases recycled from the cool region 74 to compartment 46 and gases recycled through the hood 35 and heat exchangers 102 to compartment 48. The ratio between the volume of gas supplied to the furnace, or of fresh air supplied to the cooler, and the total volume of cooling gas can be 1 : 3, and the amount of dust escaping to the atmosphere is reduced.
