Abstract

1333678 Packaging UNION CARBIDE CORP 19 April 1971 [31 March 1970] 25675/71 Heading B8C An article is packaged in a bag of shrinkable plastics film by placing the article in the bag, evacuating air from the bag into the atmosphere through the mouth of the bag by progressively subjecting the bag to a peripheral pressure exerted by an external fluid from the bottom of the bag upwards, the fluid being at a temperature above that at which the film stiffens but below that at which the film shrinks, and closing the bag. The external pressure may be applied by inserting the bag into a liquid bath, or by lowering the bag through an air ring, or into a chamber 40 having a plurality of air nozzles 50. After the end of the bag is clipped it may be heat shrunk.
