Abstract
1333304 Jointing by stamping THOMAS & BETTS CORP 19 April 1971 [4 March 1970] 23081/71 Heading B3Q A die set 49 includes a female member 50 having first and second deflectable portions 54, 56, a connecting portion 58, and obliquely angled protruding portions 70 and 72, and a male member 52 having a support portion 80, a compression portion 74 and obliquely angled, recessed surfaces 82 and 84, proportioned to engage the portions 70 and 72. In operation of the die set, the surfaces 62, 64 of the female member 50 are forced into contact with the surfaces 76, 78 of the male member 52, thus preventing sharp edges from being formed on the workpiece edges 92. In other embodiments, transverse apertures (108, Fig. 6) or inwardly extending deflectable levers (212, 214, Fig. 10) may be included in the female member. The male member may include tapered recesses for receiving the female member.
