Abstract
1332494 Cushioning piston stroke MONSUNTISON A B 9 Nov 1970 [7 Nov 1969] 53286/70 Heading F1D A device for cushioning the end of the stroke of a piston 6 reciprocal in a cylinder 1 comprises a cylindrical sleeve 8 projecting from the piston rod 5 and having a plurality of radial holes 11. Near the end of the piston stroke, the sleeve 8 enters a bore 3 concentric with cylinder 1. An annular slotted sealing ring 12 is located in an annular recess 13 in bore 3, the recess communicating with the piston chamber 15 by means of passages 14. On the downward stroke, Fig.1, the sleeve 8 slidingly engages sealing ring 12 and the fluid being pushed by piston 6 is then throttled through holes 11 at a reduced rate, thus cushioning the piston stroke. The holes 11 are cut off progressively thus damping the stroke more and more till the end of the stroke is reached. On the return stroke the ring 12 is raised by sleeve 8 thus transmitting fluid to chamber 15 via passages 14 to raise piston 6. Holes 11 can be replaced by longitudinal recesses in bore 3, the sealing ring being retained in an annular recess in the sleeve Fig.2, (not shown).
