Abstract

1332426 Cracking hydrocarbons MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KK 29 Dec 1971 [29 Dec 1970] 60580/71 Heading C5E Apparatus for the production of hydrocarbons by thermal cracking comprises a plurality of cracking tubes 3 heated in a furnace 1 and connected to a single multitubular indirect cooler 4 of the vertical .type and is characterized in that each of the cracking tubes 3 is connected by a transfer tube 10 which in creases in diameter upwardly and opens into a gas chamber 8. The chamber 8 is annular and has a stepped bottom portion 14, which can be horizontal or can be inclined outwardly and downwardly away from the transfer tubes (Figs. 4(i) and 4(ii), not shown) and serves to collect coke particles. The cracked gas, e.g. containing ethylene, propylene, 1-3 butadiene and aromatics passes from the chamber 8 through the cooling tubes 16 which are cooled by a fluid coolant in the shell 17. Figs. 1, 2(i) and 2(ii) (not shown) illustrate conventional apparatus in which a plurality of streams of cracked gas from cracking tubes are combined by a manifold leading into the gas chamber of the cooler.
