Abstract
1330574 Load cell A H EMERY CO 17 Sept 1971 43556/71 Heading G1W A hydraulic load cell comprises a diaphragm 24 extending over a pressure chamber 22 in the base of a cylinder 12 in which a piston 10 is reciprocally mounted and laterally supported by an upper bridging ring 34 which is disposed for pivotal deflection between the piston and cylinder, the ring 34 overlapping a shoulder 40 around the piston 10 and being overlapped by a shoulder 38 within the cylinder 12 and there being no clamping surfaces adjacent the parts of the ring surfaces opposite its lapped surface areas. To facilitate pivotal deflection the inner and outer peripheral surfaces 34a, 34b of the ring 34 are rounded, each with a radius equal to half the width of the ring to allow rolling action. A similar lower bridging ring 42 with rounded ends 42a, 42b rests on a Neoprene disc 25 on the diaphragm 24 being held against the pressure in a chamber 22 by annular wires 46, 48 bearing against shoulders 50,52 of the piston 10 and cylinder 12 and also serving as frictionless pivots for deflection of the ring 42. A loading head 54 transmits its load to the base 60 of a recess 60 in the pivots 10 through blocks 64, 58 through the intermediary of a ball 56 surrounded by a resilient cylinder 62 which may or may not be of sufficient depth to inhibit side to side motion of the head 54. Protective coverings 66, 72 are provided, the ring 34 may have spaced radial slots open at the outer periphery of the ring and the shoulder 38 may have slots 39 in opposite sides thereof to facilitate edgewise insertion of the ring 34 during initial assembly of the parts of the load cell.
