1329747 Feeding sheets XEROX CORP 10 Dec 1970 [17 Dec 1969] 58705/70 Heading B8R Document feed apparatus for advancing documents on to a gripper cylinder 22, e.g. the original document drum of a xerographic copier, comprises guide means, e.g. stationary guides 71, 73, rollers 81, and balls 84, gate means 85 positioned in the path defined by said guide means to arrest a document until ready to be fed on to a rotatable cylinder, roller means 114, 121 co-operating with the arrested document, first cam follower means 93 co-operating with first cam means 90, e.g. on the cylinder 22, to raise the gate means 85, and second follower means 126 co-operating with second cam means 91, e.g. on the cylinder 22, for driving the roller means to advance the document to the cylinder. Rollers 81 may be skewed to side register the documents against a wall of the guides 71, 73. A document may trip a sensor 86 as it reaches the gate, this actuating a solenoid 88 to move a clapper 89 allowing cam follower 93 to pivot clockwise in accordance with cam 90, this causing lever 104 to pivot anticlockwise, pin 109 raising the gate 85 whilst roller 114 on lever 104 decends and presses the document against lower feed roller 121, this then being rotated via gear 129 and toothed segment 121 by the second cam follower 126. Piled copy sheets may be separated by roller (42), Fig. 1 (not shown), and fed via guides and gripper chain (43) to a xerographic drum (20).
