Abstract

1329740 Arc rupturing in switches DELLEALSTHOM 30 Dec 1970 [16 Jan 1970] 61897/70 Heading H1N An arc rupturing device for a fluid blast circuit breaker comprises a nozzle 3 having a duct 2 with orifices 1 to provide a transverse fluid blast. The orifices are connected to individual chamber 4, common chamber 5 and a further chamber 7 having a piston 14. When the arc passes through duct 2 the heated fluid moves into the orifices and the associated chambers but returns to the duct as a cooled transverse fluid blast prior to the extinction of the arc at current zero. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the orifices are formed by a plurality of conductive metal discs inserted into the nozzle.
