Abstract

1328756 Protecting machine tool guideways A HENNIG and K HENNIG 20 April 1971 [24 April 1970 9 Feb 1971] 10178/71 Heading B3B A protective cover for a machine tool part such as a guideway 1 comprises cover elements, such as that seen at 2, which interfit telescopically, each element having dependent flexible regions 4, 5 which allow the cover to be mounted to the guideway by relative movement towards one another and snap fitting of the flexible regions about the guideway. Each element also includes a rear wall 6 and a wiper (7) (Fig. 3, not shown), which wipes the top surface of the adjacent smaller element. The top and side walls of each element may be formed from a plastics blank. In another embodiment (Figs. 4-6 on Figs. 7 and 8, not shown), the top wall may be of metal secured to plastics members forming the side walls. In a modification, parts of the cover exposed to hot chips are covered with a metallic layer, a glass-fibre reinforcement, or heat-resisting plastics.
