Abstract
1328542 Winding cables BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd 19 April 1971 [3 Feb 1970] 5112/70 Heading D1J An apparatus for winding cable e.g. electric cables in layers has a guide to lead the cable 2 onto the drum 3. A feeler 1 associated with the guide underlies the cable and has upstanding cheeks on either side so that if the cable diverges from a line substantially perpendicular to the drum axis. The guide arm is pivoted which actuates either of switches 8 and 9. This initiates traversing of the guide by means of a lead screw 11 driven by a motor 10. The guide may have a normal stationary condition modified by switches 8 and 9 or have a normal slow traverse similarly modified. Alternatively to the switches a potentiometer associated with a reversible motor may be employed as described in Specification 978174. The guide rests on the drum 3 or the preceding cable layer and the cable 2 is conducted along it by vertically or horizontally disposed rollers. The guide is centrally biased by springs 7.
