Abstract
1327297 Bonded fibre sheet SPRAYON RESEARCH CORP 14 May 1971 14899/71 Heading D1R [Also in Division E1] A thermally insulating mat is produced by mixing fibres and binder and projecting said mixture at a velocity of above 4000 ft./min. onto a collecting surface. Preferably rock or mineral wool fibres optionally containing some asbestos fibres are mixed with cementations binder and perlite or vermiculite filler in hopper Y by means of rotating finger N, fed by auger screw M to carding cylinder 9 and fall into the open upper compartment of revolving storgate B. As each compartment reaches the bottom position a high velocity stream of air and dry steam carries the fibres along flexible conduit C to gunhead E, which is also supplied with water. The gunhead may be a venturi type which wets the fibres before they leave the gunhead, or a multiple nozzle type which wets the fibres in mid-air. The air stream leaves the gunhead at above 4000 ft/min and thereby produces on the collecting surface a coherent layer that needs no tamping. The production of fire-resisting ceilings is described.
