Abstract
1326435 Epoxy resin emulsions RESYN CORP 3 Nov 1970 [3 Nov 1969 7 July 1970] 52323/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] A compound, useful as an emulsifying agent and curing agent for epoxy resins has either the Formula (A) in which each of the groups R, which may be the same or different, is an unsubstituted or amino- or hydroxy-substituted C 2-10 hydrocarbon radical, an unsubstituted or alkyl-, cycloalkyl- or acetyl-substituted amino radical in which the (cyclo)alkyl radicals contain up to C 10 , or an aliphatic radical substituted by a heterocyclic radical with 5 to 8 ring atoms; each R<SP>1</SP>, which may be the same or different is H or an unsubstituted or amino- or hydroxy-substituted C 1-6 alkyl radical; each is Cl, Br or I; Y is the residue of a saturated or unsaturated diol in which the OH groups are attached to aliphatic carbon atoms; each n or n<SP>1</SP> is 0-12; with a proviso that at least two of R and R<SP>1</SP> are H or contain H bonded to N. Alternatively the compound may have the formula (B) which is a compound I in which one or more of the hydrogen atoms directly linked to a carbon atom is replaced by a C 1-6 alkyl radical or a C 5-7 aryl or cycloaliphatic radical or a heterocyclic radical having 5-8 ring atoms. I may be prepared by reacting a diglycidyl ether (X, Y, n and n<SP>1</SP> are as previously defined) with an amine HNRR<SP>1</SP> (R and R<SP>1</SP> are as previously defined) using a molar ratio of amine to diglycidyl ether of at least 2 : 1. R may be hydroxyethyl, aminoethyl, aminopropyl, aminobutyl, aminohexyl, acetylamino, polyaminoethyl, polypropylamino, ethyl, propyl, niso- or tert-butyl, pentyl, isopropyl, hexyl, heptyl, octyl, nonyl, decyl, aminoethyl or piperazino. R<SP>1</SP> may be methyl, ethyl, hydroxyethyl, aminoethyl, propyl, hydroxypropyl, aminopropyl, n- or sec-butyl, pentyl or hexyl. Y may be the residue of propylene glycol, di- or poly-propylene glycol, 1,4-butane diol, di- or polyethylene glycol or 1,6-hexane diol. The amine may be diethylenetriamine, triethylenetetramine, tetraethylenepentamine, ethylene diamine or 1,6-hexanediamine.
