1326071 Section insulator BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CONSTRUCTION CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [17 Feb 1970] 7537/70 Heading H2C An insulating runner comprises at least one elongate inner body 1 of resin bonded glass or other fibre, metal end-fittings (2) (Fig. 2, not shown) on the inner body, and an outer body 3 of a resin composition at least partly enclosing the inner body between the end-fittings and carrying a plurality of ceramic or vitreous inserts 4. In Fig. 1 the outer body is cylindrical and is cast from cycloaliphatic epoxy resin together with hydrophthalic anhydride, as a hardener, stannous octoate, as an accelerator, and silica flour, as a filler. A longitudinal row of ceramic shell inserts 4 of semi-circular section are embedded in and interlocked by sawtooth projections 5 with the resin body. The shells are angled at about 45 degrees to the axis of the runner so they overlap longitudinally (Fig. 3, not shown), and the edges of the shells are chamfered. An alternative cross-section is shown in Fig. 4 in which the transverse dimension parallel to the running surface is greater than the dimension perpendicular to it, and the sawtooth projections are replaced by dovetails 7.
