Abstract
1323888 Gettering S A E S GETTERS SpA 17 July 1970 [24 July 1969] 34771/70 Heading H1D A cartridge for a getter pump comprises a pleated strip of segments comprising a substrate carrying a non-evaporable getter metal, the angle between adjacent outwardly opening segments being maintained constant by spacing means. In Fig. 4 a substrate strip 45 is coated with particles of the getter metal over rectangular areas 46-49 separated by slots 56, 57 which allow the strip to be pleated and bent to form a cylindrical cartridge. In the non-coated margins 50 and 51 spacing protuberances 58-61 are formed on alternate segments so that when folded the pleats define a desired angle between 1 degree and 15 degrees, preferably between 2 degrees and 10 degrees. The cartridge may be heated by radiation from a central heating element (Fig. 1, not shown), or the substrate may be of resistive material and heated by the passage of current through it.
