Abstract

1323578 Two part couplings BUNKER RAMO CORP 13 Oct 1970 [13 Oct 1969] 48672/70 Heading H2E [Also in Division H4] A connector comprises a socket 12 having a sleeve portion 15 retainably insertable within an aperture 10 in a wall 11 of a telephone receiver and having a flange 28 to limit inward movement therewithin, and a plug 13 having a sleeve portion 40, there being movable grip portions 56, 58 on the plug and latching devices 68, 70, 78, 80 on the socket which interlock automatically on insertion of the plug into the socket but resist withdrawal therefrom. The socket sleeve 15 which may be of nylon has an end wall 16 in which are located contacts 19 in the form of pins 24 carrying conductors 20 and is formed with a plurality of slots 32 to render the tube sidewall flexible so that lugs with a shoulder 36 and inclined surface 34 allow the socket to be freely inserted into the aperture 10 but resist withdrawal; the flange 28 of the socket is formed with a pair of oppositely outwardly extending side-walls 30. The plug, also of nylon, has contacts with sleeves 48 complementary to the socket pins 24 and is provided at its outer end with slots 54 to form grip portions 56, 58 which have recesses 64, 66, 74, 76 for engagement with the lugs 68, 70, 78, 80. When the plug is inserted in the socket, bevelled surfaces 60, 62 on the plug spread the sidewalls 30 and allow the lugs 68, 70, 78, 80 to snap into the recesses 64, 66, 74, 76. Release of the plug for withdrawal is effected by squeezing the grip portions 56, 58 together (Fig. 7) causing bevelled surfaces 82, 84, 86, 88 on the recesses 64, 66, 74, 76 to coact with cam surfaces 92, 94, 96, 98 on the lugs 68, 70, 78, 80 and spread the sidewalls 30.
