Abstract

1314471 Two-part couplings ESSEX INTERNATIONAL Inc 19 May 1971 [22 May 1970] 15786/71 Heading H2E A two-part coupling comprises a female member 30 having a substantially U-shaped portion 31, in the side walls of which are formed apertures 37 comprising a generally circular cross-section portion 36 and a tapered slot portion 38. The male member 25 has a pin 26 formed with a spherical end-piece 27 of which the diameter is greater than the wall separation of the U of the female member, and which diameter is greater than that of the apertures 37. A connection between the members is therefore made by inserting the spherical end 27 into the U-shaped portion until the sphere surfaces engage the edges 36 of the apertures 37, thereby holding the members together (Fig. 6, not shown). Resilient projections 43 extending from the U-channel walls may be used to retain the connector in a body member. In an alternative form of female connector (Fig. 2, not shown) the aperture and slots are formed adjacent the top edge of the U-channel wall. Several such male, or female, connectors may be mounted in a single insulating body and the body may be formed by moulding it around the connectors (Figs 1-4, not shown).
