Abstract
1321102 Trihalophosphazine phosphoryl dihalides CASTROL Ltd 19 April 1971 [9 April 1970] 17019/70 Heading C1A Trihalophosphazine phosphoryl dihalides (PX 3 NPOX 2 ) are prepared by reacting PX 5 with an NH 3 salt having oxygen in the anion. X is preferably chlorine. In the reaction mixture P : N is preferably 2 : 1, and the N : O ratio may be adjusted by addition of NH 4 Cl. Small amounts of PCl 3 may be added. The reaction medium is preferably a solvent for PX 5 , e.g. a halogenated hydrocarbon, or nitrobenzene. The NH 4 salt may be added as a solid, solution, or slurry to a solution or slurry of PX 5 . The reaction temperature is preferably 80-150‹ C. A by-product P 3 NX 12 may be formed, which is convertible to the product by reaction with SO2.
