Abstract
1320407 Manifold imaging XEROX CORP 30 June 1970 [1 July 1969] 31541/70 Heading G2H A cyclic process for the imagewise fracture and registered recombination of a cohesively weak electro-photo-sensitive layer between sheets, at least one of which is transparent, is employed for temporary display purposes. The sheets may be conducting or insulating. Sheets of insulating material may each be charged by a roller electrode, corona discharge device, or friction charging device. The image may be viewed while stationary or moving. The image may be temporarily fixed or the layer material may be maintained permanently activated by incorporating a non-volatile plasticizer or by using a sealed chamber containing activating vapour. Recombination may be effected using a soft rubber roll or ultrasonic vibration. As shown, a freshly activated and recombined layer 204 sandwiched between two transparent insulating sheets 202 and 206 is subjected to a field of one polarity by electrodes 242 and 244, uniform radiation 248, a field of opposite polarity by electrodes 208 and 210, and imagewise radiation 216, whereafter sheets 202 and 206 are separated, the images are fixed by a heater 224, the image on sheet 202 is viewed at station 226, reactivation is effected by solvent 240, and the images are recombined.
