1319485 Latches CEGEBAT GP 9 June 1970 [9 June 1969] 27851/70 Heading E2A A latching device comprising a bolt, an unlatching ramp integral with the bolt and a means for biassing the bolt and ramp together to a latching position is, in use, housed in a cavity in the outermost leaf of a plurality of leaves, (e.g. window leaves) displaceable in a fixed frame, and is engageable in a socket formed in the fixed frame to fasten the outer leaf to the fixed frame; unlatching may be performed by engagement of the adjacent inner leaf with the unlatching ramp. Figs. 1 and 2 are a vertical and a horizontal section respectively. As the outer leaf is slid along the rail 11, Fig. 1, in a direction away from the observer (equivalent to upwards in Fig. 2), the bevel of a latch bolt 51 makes contact with the adjacent edge of groove 21 formed in the upright 2 near the end of the path of travel. The bolt is thus urged to the right against the force of spring 53 and finally snaps into place as shown (full lines) in Fig. 2. If now the inner leaf 4, Fig. 2, is slid in the same direction, the inner leaf, at a position near the end of its travel, makes contact with the unlatching ramp 52 integral with bolt 51, forcing it to the right to the unlatched (dotted line) position at the limit of travel of the leaf 4. Thereafter, a device, not shown or described, for securing leaves 3 and 4 together, may be actuated, whereupon the leaf 3 is entrained by leaf 4 on retraction of leaf 4.
