Abstract
1293623 Safety enclosures JOHN LEWIS & CO Ltd 15 June 1971 [15 June 1970] 28951/70 Heading E1B A safety enclosure for the edge of a mezzanine floor comprises front 21 and 24 and rear 22 and 25 rails connected to opposite ends of rotatable shafts 19 and 23 respectively so that when the shafts 21 and 24 close the front of the enclosure the rear is open and vice versa, the rotatable shafts together with stanchions 11-14 on which they are mounted defining the enclosure. The front rails are spring urged to the open position but held in place by catcher 43 which may be released by pulling a chain 46. In an alternative embodiment the rails 21-25 are held by in their non-obstructing spring catches mounted on the stanchions 11-14. The meeting ends of the rails 21 and 24 may be interconnected by a cylindrical sleeve mounted on one and spring urged to engage the other. An enclosure may be defined by a single rotatable shat, front rail and rear rail, the other side being formed by a wall.
