Abstract

1318360 Clasp fastener OPTI-HOLDING AG 7 Aug 1970 38095/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division E2] A sliding clasp fastener consisting of a pair of stringer tapes with interlocking members attached thereto is provided with sealing strips by engaging the interlocking members of the fastener with corresponding coupling members on a belt, placing rubber or plastics strips on the stringer tapes to overlap the tape and interlocking members and applying heat and pressure to bond the strips to the tapes. In an embodiment, the pair of stringer tapes 6, 7 with interlocking members 9, 10 are passed through disengaging means 8 and then each is engaged with a common belt 1 having coupling members 12, 13 on each side. The belt 1 is made of a textile and is provided with a non-stick elastomeric coating 20. Sealing strips 15, 16 are applied over the stringer tapes and interlocking members and the composite is pressed at elevated temperature. The press may comprise a reciprocating plate 17 and a base-plate 18 which has channels 19 to receive the interlocking members. Alternatively, the composite may be passed between rollers. The moulding belt is stripped from the coated tapes and the tapes are reunited by engaging means 21 and wound up on reel 9. The sealing strips 15, 16 may be provided with profiles 22 (Fig. 3, not shown), thereby providing a seal in the finished fastener.
