1317923 Bonded fibre fabrics SANDOZ Ltd 27 July 1970 [28 July 1969 15 Aug 1969 23 Sept 1969] 36356/70 Headings D1B and D1R Non-woven fabrics are impregnated with a mixture of a binder and a pre-dyeing agent, said agent comprising a polyamine or polyamine/amide bearing cationic groupings, produced by cross-linking said polyamines and/or polyamide/amines with acylating or alkylating agents. Then printed, dyed and/or optically brightened. The binder may be a copolymer of 2 or more of acrylonitrile, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, or their esters of C 1 -C 4 alcohols, butadiene and styrene, and is applied as an aqueous dispersion by spraying, padding or by screen or foam impregnation. The pre-dyeing agent, which is dissolved in the water is formed by reacting polyamines or polyamine/ amides, in which the NH and/or CO groups are linked by linear alkylene chains of 2-8 carbon atoms, optionally carrying methyl, ethyl or phenyl substituents, e.g. dipropylene triamine, or polymerisation products of triethylene tetramine, tetraethylene pentamine, tri-(1,2-propylene)-tetramine, di-(1,3-propylene)- triamine, and di-(1,4-butylene)-triamine with dicarboxyclic acids whose functional groups are linked by a C 4 to C 8 chain, with bifunctional alkylating or acylating agents. These are epichlorohydrin or were X is 0-7, Z is R 1 and R 2 are alkyl or hydroxyalkyl, Y is a C 2 to C 6 chain, a 2 hydroxy-1,3-propylene radical or (CH 2 ) p -NH-CO-NH-(CH 2 ) p , where p = 2 or 3, and A is an anion, or aliphatic diacyl chlorides. Impregnation is carried out at 10-50‹C and condensation at 100-180‹C. The non-woven fabric is then coloured and/or optically brightened by printing, exhaust dyeing, or pad dyeing by the steam, roll, batch or jig processes by anionic dyes and/or brighteners bearing sulphonic and/or carboxylic acid groups. They are of the acid, direct, solubilized vat, reactive, premetallized and metallizable classes. Examples are given.
