Abstract

1361439 Dyeing acrylic fibres GAF CORP 21 Dec 1971 [21 Dec 1970] 59209/71 Heading D1B Acrylic or mixed acrylic fibres or fabric are dyed by contacting the fibre or fabric with a dye-solvent system comprising (1) a lower (C 1-6 ) alkyl water-insoluble chlorinated solvent and (2) a solution of a complex dye, 0.1 to 20 parts by weight of solution (2) for 100 parts by weight of the solvent (1) being present, the solution (2) comprising (a) a complex of a cationic dye with a linear alkyl-arylsulphonic acid surface active agent dissolved in (b) a lower alcoholic solvent, (c) an alkalizing agent and (d) water in an amount sufficient to form a clear stable solution of the complex followed by heat curing the thus treated fibre or fabric. The application of the dye-solvent system may be effected at temperatures up to 140‹F at pH 2 to 7.5, the lower alcoholic solvent being present in an amount of from 5 to 25% by weight based on the total weight of the solution (2). Polyacrylonitrile and polyacrylonitrile-viscose mixed fabrics may be dyed.
