Abstract
1317801 Automatically controlled vehicle brakes E PAGLIARO 28 July 1970 [31 July 1969] 36518/70 Headings F2E and F2F An automatically controlled vehicle braking system in which the vehicle is kept in a braked condition, for example on a sloping road, without the need for the driver to intervene includes a braking surface such as a drum TF rigid with the wheel, at least one braking member PT which can be moved by pressure fluid actuation means into contact with the drum and which is supported so as to be capable of moving in the same direction as the drum within predetermined limits by step means AR, a fluid circuit for the actuator including a control valve F and means such as an electrical circuit for causing the movement of the member PT to actuate the control valve and maintain the brakes in the applied condition. As shown the support SM for the braking member is pivoted at FL and operates a switch CF to energise valve F. Movement of the vehicle in the opposite direction opens the switch and releases the brake. A further switch CM controlled by the engagement of reverse gear renders the device inoperable. Braking pads 21, 22 comprising plate members 23, 24 and 25, 26 are actuated by hydraulic wheel cylinders and arranged between the actuation plunger for pad 22 and the plate 25 are plates 27 and two sheets 28 of a material having a low coefficient of friction, the plate 27 having a pin 29 secured thereto and projecting into operative engagement with the switch CF connected to a control valve.
