Abstract

1284707 Disc brake actuator; disc brakes SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [4 Feb 1970] 20928/71 Headings F2E and F2F A disc brake actuator which is adjusted to be operated by pressurized hydraulic fluid in each of or both a first and a second hydraulic circuit comprises a cylinder 4 having slidable therein first and second pistons 5, 6 for actuation by the pressure in the first and second hydraulic circuits respectively. The piston 5, in use, is adjacent a pad 3 of the disc brake, the second piston 6 being urged by resilient means into engagement with the first piston and, on the side thereof remote from the pad 3 the second piston is engaged by a detent means 19, 20, 21, working between the cylinder and the piston to prevent substantially movement of the second piston away from the first piston. The two pistons have the same effective areas. The detent means 19, 20, 21 also forms an automatic slack adjuster. An actuator as disclosed above may be mounted on each side of the brake disc.
